Introduction
Space to Innovate (S2I) is an expertly facilitated half-day meeting of healthcare professionals. The program structure is designed to be flexible and can be used to investigate issues within any healthcare setting, whether it is product, process or service related.
Objective
The objective of the session is to identify problematic areas within the healthcare setting, prioritize and identify potential solutions.
Format
The format of the half-day is intended to encourage participants to be open-minded and comfortable sharing their knowledge, thoughts and experiences.
The S2I session kicks off with a warm-up exercise to help participants become comfortable in the environment and confident to contribute. It is important that all participants contribute to the maximum of their ability to get the greatest benefit from the session.
The second part of the S2I session is geared towards brainstorming issues within the subject area. This is then followed by prioritization/ranking of the most important issues.
Part three is when the focus shifts to ‘ideas’ for solutions to the most important issues.
Following the S2I event a report is created by NISW documenting all of the activities and findings from the day. Additionally the ideas for solutions are further investigated and where possible project teams are created in order to develop the ideas with a view to implementation.
Participants
Participants can come from any NHS background. S2I sessions that we have run include Tissue Viability, Infection Control and Long-term Bed Care.
